This is a pic of the Durga Idol during its creation at the Kumartuli. The idol is not completed but the artist allowed me to take a pic. Durga is the main deity of the Bengali and she is worshiped in different forms: Mother, daughter, Karuna (sympathy), Rudra(Anger)...... etc. This is a pic of Durga in her Rudra avataar. She is supposed to ward off all evil and her anger protects her children and never lets any harm come their way. She vanquishes demons and restores balance in the life of her devotees. I am used to all forms of the Goddess........ but personally I like her as a mother bestowing love with her eyes and her form. For more on the festival read my version of it HERE

At first I just saw the smile in this picture.
ReplyDeleteThen I looked again and saw the hidden anger.
This picture really spoke to me. We hide our souls sometimes behind our smiles.
Just amazing.
